Over 65 million men were sent to war, millions of women across the globe moved to fill in the holes created in civilian society. From Britain to Boston to Baghdad, across the United States and Europe and India and Africa, women were the ones in charge now. Women moved into "mens" jobs, from smelting iron,to driving streetcars, to plowing fields, as well as working to administrate new public and private organizations in support of the war. With men away at battle women took on extraordinary roles in support of the war, wether it was front line as policewomen or in factories and farms. The U.S. army also trained over 400 female telephone operators to serve in France and England. Women were also fire fighters and nurses to the wounded solders. Women were also fire fighters and nurses that took care of the wonded. Women also had to find the time in there long days to take care of there kids and wait in a line to get food for there family.
